WHICH WAY ARE YOU HEADED?
Sometimes there are clues which help us determine which way people are going. A man with
a fishing pole and tackle box is going to a pond, lake or stream. A boy with an armload of books
is headed to school or the library. A man carrying a lunch box or briefcases is headed to work.
How do we know? Because there are telltale clues. In religion we can also tell which way folks
are going by certain clues:
1. The company they keep. Running with the worldly crowd will result in worldly behavior. “Be not deceived: Evil companionships corrupt good morals” (1 Cor. 15:33). If it looks like a
duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, guess what!?! It is a duck!
2. The places they go. When Sunday outings and trips interfere with worshipping God in
spirit and in truth, then someone is headed in the wrong direction. Hebrews 10:25 still says, “not
forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and
so much the more, as ye see the day drawing nigh.” Someone has said, “A little neglect goes a
long ways--towards hell!
3. The things they do. When God’s laws for marriage and the family are scorned and
trampled underfoot--when lust and adultery become commonplace behavior--then someone has
taken a wrong turn! Take the time to read Matthew 19:9; Ephesians 3:21, 25; 1 Corinthians
6:9-11. 4. The goals they seek. The world seems to be mad--both money mad and pleasure mad.
“Eat, drink and be merry,” and “Grab all the gusto!” are the sugarcoated phrases Satan uses to
deceive folks as to the purpose of life. Spiritual goals are much more important than material
ones. The world seeks grime, when it could have glory (Eccl. 12:13; Matt. 16:23-26). Although people are going about various activities, there are basically only two ways for us to
be going: We read about them in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter ye in by the narrow gate: for wide is
the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many are they that enter in
thereby. For narrow is the gate, and straitened the way, that leadeth unto life, and few are they
that find it.”
We urge everyone to walk in the right direction, but if you are not a Christian, you need to
make a U-turn--please read Acts 2:38. If you are a Christian and need to make a U-turn, please
read 1 John 1:9. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: When friends make a mistake, don’t rub it in--rub it out!
Love ya,
Jesse
