THE ESSENCE OF GOD (#2)
Today we continue our discussion of the nature of our Creator. Two weeks ago we said that the Bible
reveals God by describing His nature and we then listed three attributes of God’s nature: 1) God is
eternal. 2) God is spirit. 3) God is one. Today we want to consider two more characteristics of God’s
nature.
4. God is omniscient. This is a fancy term (probably coined by a preacher) meaning that God is
all-knowing. Our God knows all things past, present and future with complete accuracy (Luke 24:44-48;
Acts 2; 1 John 3:20; Psa. 147:5). His knowledge extends even to the smallest of His creatures (Matt.
10:29-30) and to our daily lives (Psa. 139:2-4; Matt. 6:10-15). All of the ac- cumulated knowledge of
mankind is nothing compared to God’s knowledge.
5. God is omnipotent. Another fancy term that simply means that God is all-powerful. He is called “the
Almighty God” (Gen. 17:1). The term “Almighty” means “All Mighty,” thus we see His unlimited
power. Revelation 19:6 says, “And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of
many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent
reigneth” (KJV). God is so powerful that He spoke and the universe came into existence (go back and
read Genesis chapter one again). One day He will speak and the universe will cease to be (1 Thess. 4:
13-20). Our God is that powerful!
Think about these things. More next week (if the Lord is willing).
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Why is that the man who invests all your money is called a
broker?
Have a great week!
Love ya,
