RUNNING ONE WAY, THEN T'OTHER (CONTINUED)

Last week we discussed the religious confusion that exists in the world today and how some
people are running first one way, then t’other. We continue this subject today.
We are taught that “...God is not the author of confusion...” (1 Cor. 14:33). Where you find
confusion you will not find God. But all peace is not peace. In Old Testament times people said,

“Peace, peace” but God reminded them that there was no peace (Jer. 6:14). We cannot find re-
ligious peace in the creeds and theories of men. Councils and synods of men cannot give peace to

the hearts of weary men. The world through its wisdom, learning and philosophy has never been
able to find God. In fact, God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.
Peace comes only from God--it can come only by hearing and doing God’s will. There can be no
peace apart from obedience to the gospel. Good deeds are as “filthy rags” in the sight of God
when they stand apart from obedience to His will (see Isa. 64:6). Man cannot do enough to save
himself, but when he works righteousness (Acts 10:34), he is not working his own works--he is
working the works of God. When he obeys the truth he is set free from sin and becomes a servant
of righteousness (John 8:32; Rom. 6:27-28). He thus is added by the Lord to His church (Acts
2:47), where there is peace. He now in a position to follow Christ--he will not be led astray by
every woodpecker that knocks overhead. He will put his trust in the Lord, follow Him and no
other--obey Him and no other--He will accept the revealed will of God which is the Word of God
and follow after things which make for the peace that passeth all understanding (Rom. 14:19;
Phil. 4:7). Yes, we can have peace (and not confusion) in the religious world, but it will come through
the will of God, not the will of men. Let us hear His voice and follow Him for Jesus said, “...he
that followeth men shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12)
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: The best way to spend time is to invest it in eternity!
Have a great week!

Love ya,
Jesse
