SAFE GROUND
Our religion--our faith--our relationship with God--is our most important consideration. We
ought to be absolutely certain about everything we believe and practice. Let us return to the church
of the New Testament in all things. Let us become Christians in the same manner that men became
such during the time of the apostles (Acts 2:36-47). Let us worship as the early Christians wor-
shipped. Let us see that the church is organized and governed as it was in the days when the Holy
Spirit directed the apostles. Then we are on safe ground. These suggestions form an approach to
understanding the source of religious authority (Matt. 28:18-20). They will bring men closer to-
gether, eliminating the division that plagues the religious world as a whole.
Men promise the gift of the Holy Spirit before baptism. They ignore Peter’s words, “...repent
and be baptized...and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). They were promised
the gift of the Holy Spirit as a result of being baptized. Men often teach that the Holy Spirit is given
to make men sons of God. Inspired men never told alien sinners to pray for the gift of the Holy
Spirit because the gift of the Holy Spirit was to be given only when men had entered into Christ by
baptism, thus becoming children of God.
Do you realize that many religious folks have elevated their churches above heaven? They have
done this in various doctrines. They say that a man can go to heaven by “faith only. But just try to
get into their churches by “faith only!” They teach that “faith only” will save, but it takes more than
that to get into their churches. They claim that baptism is nonessential to salvation--that a man can
go to heaven without it. But that same man must be baptized to get into their churches. Thus it is
harder to get into their man-made churches than it is to get into heaven--the eternal home of the
soul!
Safe ground is found only in building upon the Rock (Matt. 7:24-25). God knows full well that
a person can help what he believes and also what he does. Are you on safe ground?
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: If your faith means much to you, live so that it will mean much to
others.
Have a great week!
Love ya,
Jesse
