THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CHURCH
There are many reasons that can be given to stress the importance of the church. One of the
most outstanding is the fact that Jesus is the Savior of the church. Let me explain: The church is
important because Christ is its Savior. But if Christ is the Savior of the church, then it stands to
reason that one must be a member of the church to be saved. For one to say one is saved and yet
not a member of the church of the Bible, then it is true that that one has been deceived in
religious matters.
For the proof of this, let us turn to the New Testament, the inspired Word of God. Paul wrote,
“For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, being himself the
saviour of the body” (Eph. 5:23). The body here has reference to the church (Eph. 1:22-23; Col.
1:18). Thus, Paul is simply saying that Christ is the Savior of the church.
Since Christ is the Savior of the church, then how could anyone go so far as to say that the
church is not important? Only an unbeliever would say such a thing. To say that the church is
important is not to deny Christ, but to magnify Him. To say that one must be become a member
of the Lord’s church to be saved is not to reject Chris t as the Savior, but to accept Him as such.
What about you? Where do you stand on this matter? Are you guilty of making light of the
Lord’s church? You will have to answer these questions for yourself, but keep in mind that
Christ is the Savior of the church.
I am saying that if Christ is the Head of the church (and He is), then all man-made churches
stand condemned. As the apostle Paul said, “...yea, let God be found true, but every man a liar...”
(Rom. 3: 4). If you contradict God’s Word, then you make yourself a liar. God does not, will not,
cannot lie. His Word is true. Always!
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: “In the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean
demon...” (Luke 4:33), but that did not keep Jesus away from the synagogue. Would you let it
keep you from the worship?
