THE INSPIRED WORD OF GOD

When we say that the Bible is inspired, we do not mean that it is an inspiring book, although
it is. But rather we mean that this book which we call the Bible is from God. The apostle Paul
said in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may
be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” The phrase “inspired of God” literally
means it is “God-breathed.” (Vine’s Expository Dictionary of NT Words). That means that God
spoke the words into existence. It is true that men wrote the words, but the words were from
God. Paul stated, “And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of
wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among
you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in
much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom,
but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom
of men, but in the power of God” (1 Cor. 2:1-5). When we read the Bible, we are not reading the
words of men, but rather the mind of God.
The fact that the Bible claims to be from God should cause one to want to study its contents
and learn whether it truly is from God or not. We should admit that there are other books that
claim to come from God, but the question really is “Do they demonstrate that they are from
God?” I believe the Bible demonstrates beyond all question that it is from God. How does it do
this? By means of fulfilled prophecy. Every prophecy that God’s Word has made in times past
has come true, with one exception. What is that exception? The second coming of Christ. He will
come one day. Are you ready for that day? More next week.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: The doctrines and commandments of men are in vain (Matt.
15:9). Have a great week!

Love ya,
Jesse
