WHAT TO DO WITH THE TRUTH

The writer of Proverbs said, “Buy the truth and sell it not: also wisdom and instruction and understand-
ing” (23:23). What should we do with this thing called “truth”? We know that God’s Word is truth (John 17:

17). Here are some things the New Testament tells us to do with the truth:
1. Know it! “...If ye abide in my word, then are ye truly my disciples; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth
shall make you fee” (John 8:31-32). The devil and his crowd would have us believe that we can’t even know or
understand the truth. Such is false. Paul wrote, “how that by revelation was made known unto me the mystery,
as I wrote before in few words, whereby, when ye read, ye can perceive my understanding in the mystery of
Christ” (Eph. 3:3-4). The devil says you can’t know the truth. Jesus says we can know the truth and only the
truth can set us free. Which will you believe?
2. Love it! Paul wrote of those that “...perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be
saved” (2 Thess. 2:10). Do you love the truth? Do you really? Do you read it? Do you study it? Do you obey it?
3. Believe it! Paul continues in 2 Thessalonians 2:12, “that they all might be judged who believed not the truth,
but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” Some might say, “Jesse, you speak against believing all the time!” No, I
don’t--I do speak against the false doctrine of faith only, but I encourage everyone to believe the truth!
4. Obey it! Peter writes, “Seeing ye have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth unto unfeigned love
of the brethren, love one another from the heart fervently” (1 Pet. 1:22). We also read this passage: “though he
was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered; and having been made perfect, he became
unto all them that they obey him the author of eternal salvation” (Heb. 5:8-9). 5. Help it! Some folks say that the truth does not need our feeble, puny efforts to help it. Jude admonished his
readers (and us) “...to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered unto the saints (Jude v.
3). The faith is the one true faith (Eph. 4:4) that comes from God’s Word, the truth (Rom. 10:17). Consider
also 3 John 8, “We therefore ought to welcome such, that we may be fellow-workers for the truth.” The King
James version uses the term “fellow helpers to the truth.”
“Buy the truth and sell it not...” In other words, pay whatever price it takes to get the truth and then don’t
ever give it up! Dear reader, have you done this? Do you know the truth? Do you believe the truth? Do you obey
the truth? Are you helping the truth?
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: A Christian’s walk and talk must go together.
Have a great week!

Love ya,
Jesse
