THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD
Mankind has sought for security down through the ages. A child stands close to his mother because he finds in her the security he needs. All through life we strive for security in so many different ways. We guard our health; we save for old age; we take out insurance. We long for security, but the Twenty-third Psalm emphasizes that God is our real security.
We are reminded of Matthew 6:8 when Jesus says, “...your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.” God provides for our needs before we even ask Him. David said, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread” (Psa. 37:25). This is simply another way of saying God will take care of us. Christ said, “...be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment? Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value then they?” (Matt. 6:25-26). The apostle Paul wrote, “And my God shall supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:9).
Truly, as David said so long ago, the Lord is our Shepherd and therefore we shall not want--there is not one thing necessary for us to go to heaven that the Lord will not provide. However, there are a few things we must provide: faith, submission and obedience. In Proverbs 3:5-6 we read “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Are you allowing Him to direct your paths by means of His Word? If not, can you honestly claim Him as the Shepherd of your life? I think not.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Our forefathers built this nation with three tools: an ax, a plow and a book--that book was the Bible. Have a great week!

Love ya, Jesse
