FALSE DOCTRINE

A Bible class teach once asked, “What is false doctrine?” One little boy raised his hand
and answered, “False docterin’ is when somebody is sick and the doctor gives him bad medicine
and he dies!” Without realizing it, the lad hit the nail on the head. False doctrine is bad medicine
prescribed by bad doctors.
One newspaper columnist observed that “ever since preachers got to be doctors, religion has
been sick!” And we have little doubt that he is right. Many such “preacher--doctor--philosoph- ers” have climbed into their pulpits only to prescribe false and dangerous remedies.
The world suffers from a terrible soul-sickness called “sin.” If it is left untreated, this dread
disease is eternally fatal--always. “The soul that sinneth it shall die” (Ezek. 18:20). “For the
wages of sin is death...” (Rom. 6:23). And again, “Sin when it is finished bringeth forth death”
(Jas. 1:15). The only cure for sin is the “precious blood of Christ” which was “shed for many
for the remission of sins” (1 Pet. 1:19; Matt. 26:28). Aside from Jesus Christ there is no other
means of salvation. The apostle Peter said plainly: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for
there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:
12).Any man who stands behind a pulpit bears an awesome responsibility. For him to ignore or in
any way minimize the seriousness of sin is unethical. For him to spin foolish yarns, to seek only
to amuse or flippantly joke about things eternal would be dishonest and disgusting. For him to
prescribe human philosophy, human traditions or “feel-good-about-yourself” mentality in place
of the cleansing blood of Christ would be unthinkable. For any preacher to extend any means of
forgiveness save those given by our Lord would be (and is) intolerable.
Without meaning to be ugly, where do we find the Lord telling us to “pray through” or to “get
religion”? Where in the New Testament do we read of a “mourner’s bench” or “being saved by
faith only”? We ALL need to be careful of the doctrine we accept. It might be the wrong one!
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Children these days seem to grow up bigger and faster, yet
remain children longer than ever before.
Have a great week!

Love ya,
Jesse
