THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR KNOWLEDGE
Many people fall victim to confusion in religious matters because of their lack of knowledge. They
study about the Bible, rather than study the Bible itself. How often do you read and study your Bible?
There is no substitute for knowledge--no one can know and obey the will of God unless he reads the Word
of God.
When was the last time that you took time to read, think, reason and reflect? “Of whom we have many
things to say, and hard of interpretation, seeing ye are become dull of hearing. For when by reason of the
time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need again that some one teach you the rudiments of the first
principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food. For
every one that partaketh of milk is without experience of the word of righteousness; for he is a babe. But
solid food is for fullgrown men, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern
good and evil” (Heb. 5:11-14).
Someone said, “What one generation tolerates, the next generation accepts. When one generation ac-
cepts, the next generation embraces and promotes.” The lack of knowledge of God’s Word today is
appalling. God said, “...my people are gone into captivity because they have no knowledge” (Isa. 5:13).
He also said, “For they know not to do right saith the Lord...” (Amos 3: 10). Then there is the admonition
found in Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected know-
ledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy
God, I also will forget thy children.”
Will you obey the Lord because you have read, studied and learned the truth according to the Bible? In
this manner was your intellect taught, your conscience pricked and your emotions stirred to the point of
surrendering your will to God? Are you keeping Christ out of your life because you refuse to obey His
will? Would you be willing to express your faith, repent of your sins, confess Jesus to be God’s Son and
be buried with Him in baptism for the remission of your sins? Now is an excellent time for you to obey.
Have you failed to live up to your commitment as a Christian? Now is an excellent time for you to repent
and come back to God.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Remember that nothing will run itself--unless it is running downhill!
Have a great week!
Love ya,
