GOD THINKS DIFFERENTLY FROM MAN
If man had devised the plan of salvation, he probably would have been quite lenient with its terms of
pardon. Salvation would have been extended in various ways. But God thinks differently from man. He
placed salvation in Christ. Paul wrote, “Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may
also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory” (2 Tim. 2:10). Man may think he
can obtain salvation out of Christ, but this is not possible. “And in none other is there salvation: for nei-
ther is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved” (Acts 4:
12). Also, “Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; be-
hold, they are become new” (2 Cor. 5:17). Do you think like God about salvation and where it is placed?
God said, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts
than your thoughts” (Isa. 55:8-9). And there is this: “O, Lord, I know that the way of man is not in him-
self: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps” (Jer. 10:23).
Since salvation can be had only in Christ, it is vitally important that we learn how we can enter Christ
to obtain salvation. When God sent Ananias to Paul who was praying and fasting, he didn’t tell him to
“pray through.” Rather, Paul was told “And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash
away thy sins, calling on his name” (Acts 22:16).
Today man’s “mourner’s bench” concept shows again that God’s ways and thoughts differ from that
of man’s. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ” (Rom. 10:17). God
placed salvation in Christ. “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ did put on Christ” (Gal. 3:
27). “For by one Spirit were we all baptized into one body...” (1 Cor. 12:13). “And he (Christ) is the
head of the body, the church; who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he might
have the preeminence” (Col. 1:18).
We would do well to renew our minds that we might learn to think as God thinks. This should be done
not only in regard to salvation, but also to the concept of the church and/or morals.
