WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Today it is not how old you are, but what you are--not how many years you have lived, but for
whom you are living--not where you have been, but where are you going and what you are doing.
There was a man in his bunk, seasick during a bad storm. Suddenly he heard a cry, “Man over-
board!” His first thought was, “May the Lord help that poor fellow, but there’s nothing I can do.”
Then he thought, “I can at least put my lantern in my small window.” The man overboard was
finally rescued. Recounting his story, the man said, “I was going down in the darkness for the last
time when someone put a light in a porthole. It reflected on my hand and a sailor pulled me in.”
It is not easy to tear down an old life of sin and rebuild a new one, but this is exactly what is re-
quired. There is no shortcut to becoming a mature Christian. Some claim to embrace Christianity,
but refuse to tear down the old man of sin. “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new
creature: old things are passed away: behold, all things are become new” (2 Cor. 5:17).
The old life of sin promises everything, but continually erodes away at the real fibers of life. But
those who endeavor to build a new life in Christ find themselves continually climbing to greater
heights of self-esteem and service to others. This is because of our new leader: Christ. His whole
life was dedicated to service. He gave all for us and when we obey His will, we desire to imitate
Him and serve others.
What are you willing to do? Are you willing to tear down your old life of sin and to build a new
one with Jesus? Will you believe in Him, repent of all your sins, confess your faith that He is the
Son of God and be buried with Him in baptism to rise to walk in newness of life? Perhaps you have
done this, but have allowed your old way of life to return. Why not rededicate your life to serving
Christ? Repent and confess your sins and ask God to forgive them!
Those who walk the closest and work the hardest are those who watch the best for His return.
What are you doing?
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: If you burn the candles at both ends, you are not as bright as you
think you are.
Have a great week!
Love ya,
Jesse
