WHAT ARE YOU CARRYING?

If you were walking from the well carrying a bucket of water and someone jostled you, there
could be spilled from the bucket only that which it contained. As you walk along the way of life,
people are constantly bumping into you. If your life is full of ill nature, bad temper and an ugly
disposition--ugly things will be spilled from you. On the other hand, if your life is full of a Chris-
tian spirit, you will spill a smile or a pleasant, kind remark. You can spill from your bucket only
what it holds.
Perhaps, it would be good if you were to take an honest look into your bucket. Just what are
you carrying? Are you carrying all the Christian characteristics and virtues you should be carry-
ing? Or are there some items and attitudes you ought to remove from your bucket--if you are to
save your soul and win others to Christ?
It could be that some of us need to refill our bucket with more love and zeal and concern for
others. Perhaps some of us need to empty our buckets and start all over again. Or it could be the
case that our buckets have never been full. Suppose we take a good look at ourselves and see just
how much (or how little) of the love of Christ dwells in our hearts. Some of us may have let the
supply become depleted. All of us need to constantly renew the inner man; one of the best ways
to do this is through regular attendance and active participation in the Bible classes of the church
(as well as all the other opportunities of work that are provided by the church). When we con-
stantly feed on the Word of God, ill will and suspicion just naturally evaporate. Let me ask you
again, dear reader, “Just what are you carrying in your bucket?”
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Times certainly have changed: It was once the custom to
take a bath weekly and practice religion daily--now it is just the opposite!
Have a great week!
Love ya,
Jesse
