ISN’T IT STRANGE?

Does it strike you as odd that the world seems to be upside down today? Things that used to be
wrong are now considered right and things that are right are considered by many to be wrong. There
are folks among us who contend that homosexuality is normal and that it is wrong for us to speak
out against it. There are some people today who would gladly put you in prison for killing a baby
seal or poaching eggs from an eagle’s nest, and at the same time praise those who would destroy
their unborn child in the womb, saying that such women are liberated and “up to date.” Do not get
me wrong, I do NOT advocate the killing of baby seals or the poaching of eagle’s eggs. But when all
things are considered, isn’t the life of a child far more important than all the baby seals in the world?
If your answer is “No, it’s not,” I would appreciate it if you would keep your distance from me. If
your thinking is so confused on this basic concept, I am not sure that you can be trusted around
other, normal people.
And I know that some of us “old fogeys” have simply been “left behind” the times and are seen
as negative voices that only complain and see the bad things around us. “Don’t you know that love
and peace is the greatest thing since sliced bread?” “Come on, let’s just all love one another and
peace will prevail.” As one well known criminal put it a number of years ago, “Can’t we all just get
along?” That approach doesn’t seem to be working too well in the Middle East, does it?
However, we should not be surprised or dismayed that the world is turn upside-down. It has
been in this position before (in fact, it is in this position most of the time). Consider Isaiah 5:20-
21: “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for
darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own
eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” If that is not an apt description of those who are upside-down
today, I don’t know what would be! As mixed up as this world is, we should rejoice that the
“...Lord is in his holy temple...” (Hab. 2:20). In other words, God is still sitting on His throne. He is
still ruling over His creation and His will still will prevail. That is not strange--that is just the truth.
